IMPACT OFFICER GUIDE - SERVICE PROJECT LEADER



If the primary purpose of Alpha Phi Omega is service, then Alpha Phi Omega “happens” when our projects are well-planned and effectively carried out.

Making sure that service happens is every brother’s responsibility, but the service project leader should always be the key player. This guide provides an outline of the service project leader's job and a general approach to leading chapter projects. While these suggestions should be applicable to almost every project, remember that creativity is crucial to the success of each project. Your must utilize the available resources of the chapter and mold this information according to the functions and resources available to you.

If you have questions about your job or problems carrying it out, remember that the chapter’s service vice president, Service Committee, and advisors are always available to help. Call on them whenever you need someone else’s input or help.

No publication can provide all of the answers. Therefore, we won’t even attempt to do so in this handbook. Instead, we are providing some guideposts as you plan your term of office. This booklet should give you a better understanding of your role as the chapter’s service project leader.

During your time as the service project leader, we recommend that you work on creating a supplement to this handbook to assist the future service project leaders of your chapter. This supplement may include:

  • Chapter Bylaws
  • Contact information for the current Section Chair and Region Director
  • Contacts for your chapter's Advisory Chair, as well as your scouting and youth services, community, and faculty/staff advisors
  • Detailed reports of last year’s service projects
  • Contacts in the community and on campus
  • Schedule of general events throughout the school year

CONCLUSION

Throughout your term as service project leader, remember that you have a service vice president, chapter advisors and a Section Chair (and staff) who are willing and able to assist you. Use their talents and experience.

You will find that we have not attempted to provide you with an answer to every question, problem, or crisis that may arise during your tenure. Instead, we hope the guidance provided will enable you to make proactive decisions that will provide positive experiences and support for your chapter's alumni program. Remember, one of the best supports any officer can have is interaction with the previous officer and transference of information. If you feel that you have learned something in your position which could help many other officers in the Fraternity, please send your suggestions to leadership.director@apo.org so this manual can remain fresh and relevant.
